MOSCOW, October 12 (RIA Novosti) - Former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl said he was convinced the new German government would do everything to preserve and strengthen relations with Russia.
Speaking at a Leaders in Moscow conference, Kohl said, "I have no doubt that the new German government that is being formed will follow the position of its predecessors. Any German government would do its best not only to preserve the existing relations with Russia, but also to advance them."
"Russia is our important ally in the east. Furthermore, it is of great interest for German capital," Kohl said.
The former chancellor said he was confident that relations between Moscow and Berlin were based on a solid foundation.
