MOSCOW, October 12 (RIA Novosti) - Public sector workers held demonstrations and went on strike throughout Russia on Wednesday in a bid to secure higher wages.
Tatyana Vodopyanova, a trade union leader in the Volga republic of Tatarstan, said: "We all understand very well: no one can live without a doctor, a teacher, or a cultural figure in this life."
People employed in education, science, communal services, and health care, as well as pensioners and students, took to the streets or went on strike in Central Russia, Siberia, Karelia, Tatarstan, and the Far East.
