MOSCOW, October 13 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Dmitry Tursunov advanced Thursday to the quarterfinals of the Kremlin Cup, Russia's premier tennis tournament, after defeating Italy's Filippo Volandri 6-1, 7-6 (8-6).
Tursunov is set to play the winner of the second round match between Russia's Mikhail Yuzhny and American Paul Goldstein.
In a news conference following the match, Tursunov said his self-confidence had been increasing from match to match. "I was very nervous in the first round match," he said. "Today, after winning the first set, I started thinking about victory and it agitated me."
Tursunov said he preferred Mikhail Yuzhny as an opponent in the quarterfinals match. "I will be under the pressure of responsibility if I play Paul [Goldstein]," he added.
Tursunov also complained about the court surface at the tournament. "It is not a very good surface, especially when you play fast tennis and have to change directions quickly," he said.
