NOVOSIBIRSK, October 13 (RIA Novosti, Maxim Koshmarchuk) - A Novosibirsk district court on Wednesday began hearings of a case against a couple charged with attempting to sell their newborn daughter.
The defendants, a woman aged 29 and her 42-year-old common law husband, allegedly began looking for a potential buyer before their daughter was born.
The father was arrested August 2 in a sting. While the expectant mother was at the maternity hospital, he began negotiating a deal with an undercover, who offered to pay $9,000 for the child. According to the prosecution, even though the "client" said he needed the baby for a kidney transplant for another child, this did not stop the future father.
