MOSCOW, October 13 (RIA Novosti) - Two points of militant resistance remain in the North Caucasus city of Nalchik where assailants are holding several hostages, an Interior Ministry officer said Thursday.

Deputy Interior Minister Alexander Chekalin said militants occupying a local Interior Ministry building had been forced out of the third floor and were holding out in two offices. They have several hostages with them.

"In the 'Souvenir' shop, three other militants are returning fire, but actually this has only been going on for the past hour, although they are being encouraged to surrender," Chekalin said.

Russian Armed Forces Chief of Staff Yury Baluyevsky said special forces are searching houses in the city where militants may be hiding.
