MOSCOW, October 18 (RIA Novosti) -- A senior official in the Russian Tax Service and an employee of the Central Bank were caught Monday taking a $1 million bribe, Moscow prosecutors said Tuesday.
The Federal Security Service and the Tax Service arrested the two officials in the Balchug Kempinski hotel in central Moscow. The tax official is deputy head of the Tax Service's credit organizations department, and the other is an official with the legal department of the Central Bank's main Moscow division.
The prosecutors said the two detainees had demanded the bribe from the board chairman of a Moscow bank in exchange for "protecting the bank's interests concerning claims made by tax authorities."
Prosecutors did not release the names of the suspects.
