TBILISI, October 18 (RIA Novosti) - The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg agreed Tuesday to hear a lawsuit against Georgia filed by Aslan Abashidze, the former leader of the Georgian province of Adjaria, and his family.
In September, Abashidze's lawyers filed a lawsuit against the confiscation of their property, calling it a violation of the European Convention on Human Rights.
Abashidze's property, which was worth $55 million and included houses, land, cars, works of art, and bank deposits, was confiscated by the state in September 2004.
Abashidze and his son Georgy, the former mayor of Adjaria's capital of Batumi, left the province in May 2004.
