BISHKEK, October 20 (RIA Novosti) - Three, not four, hostages were killed Thursday by inmates at a maximum-security penal colony in Kygyzstan, the country's penitentiary service press secretary said.

Sergei Sidorov denied reports that head of Kyrgyzstan's penitentiary service, Ikmatula Polotov, had died in the hospital.

"He is undergoing surgery," Sidorov told RIA Novosti. "Our operatives are waiting near the emergency ward."

Polotov was earlier transported to a hospital in serious condition with several wounds to the head, and possibly, the chest.
