MOSCOW, October 28 (RIA Novosti) - President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad did not intend to make any harsh statements about Israel, a document circulated by the Iranian embassy in Moscow said Friday.

"Mr. Ahmadinejad had no intention of making rough statements or starting a conflict," the document said.

Addressing a conference, World without Zionism, in Tehran Thursday, the Iranian president said: "There is no doubt that the new wave in Palestine will soon wipe off this disgraceful blot [Israel] from the face of the Islamic world."

Ahmadinejad also referred to the founder of Iran's Islamic revolution Ayatollah Khomeini who said that Israel's existence was illegal, and then long talked about a world without Israel and the United States.

The statements resonated strongly in the world and Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres called for excluding Iran from the UN.

Embassy officials also said the president had spoken about the need for fair elections in the occupied territories.

"It is absolutely clear that the president of Iran Mr. Ahmadinejad outlined the republic's fundamental position based on the need to hold fair elections on the occupied territories," the officials said.

According to the embassy, Ahmadinejad sees the roots of the crisis in injustice and the entertainment of double standards.

"Iran has long presented its plan for resolving the Palestinian problem, which is based on returning Palestinian refugees and holding free elections," the embassy said.

According to the document, "Zionists have caused another crisis in public opinion" after Iran "successfully re-affirmed its right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes on the global arena."
