KIEV, November 6 (RIA Novosti, Taras Burnos) - Ukrainian democracy watchdog PORA said Sunday that two of its activists and more than a dozen other students were denied entry into Azerbaijan, where parliamentary elections are underway, and immediately deported back to Ukraine.
"This morning, two PORA activists, Sergei Taran and Evheniy Zolotorev, and 14 other Ukrainian students were not allowed into Azerbaijan and were deported right from the airport on the first plane to Ukraine," the organization's Press Secretary Maryana Pochtar said.
She said the Azerbaijani authorities were interested in the documents the activists and students had on them, making copies of the papers, including some of the newspapers the two activists read on the plane there.
She said the authorities mistook the students, in Azerbaijan as tourists, for PORA activists.
PORA played an active role in last year's Orange Revolution in Ukraine.
