RAMLA, November 9 (RIA Novosti) - Dmitry Kozak, the Russian Presidential envoy to the South Federal District, denied Wednesday an Israeli media report of a possible construction of a security barrier in Russia.

"The issue of the constructing a security barrier has not been discussed and cannot be discussed in the near future in regard to any parts of Russia," Kozak said.

The Jerusalem Post published an article Tuesday saying that Kozak, while on his recent five-day visit to Israel, discussed among other issues the possibility of constructing a security barrier in Russia, similar to the one Israel has built in the West Bank.

Russia's South Federal District includes the troubled Caucasus republic of Chechnya, where Russia has staged two military campaigns in recent years. The situation remains tense in the region, and terrorists have staged several attacks in various parts of the republic, as well as in neighboring republics. The most severe of these took place last year in September at a school in Beslan, North Ossetia, which borders on Chechnya.
