BISHKEK, November 10 (RIA Novosti, Yulia Orlova) - The French military contingent has left Manas International Airport, an air base in the Kyrgyz capital used in anti-terrorism operations, thus completing its mission, an air base spokesman said Thursday.
Base officials said if the situation in Afghanistan worsened, the French military might return.
The coalition forces air base was established in Kyrgyzstan in late 2001 on a UN mandate as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Some 1,200 American soldiers and about 50 Spanish servicemen are currently stationed at the base.
Earlier this week, six French Air Force Mirage fighters left the capital of Tajikistan and returned to France, the military attache at the French Embassy in Dushanbe said Wednesday.
