BAKU, November 10 (RIA Novosti, Gerai Dadashev) - Three Azerbaijani political parties have announced the emergence of the Democratic Front opposition movement to protest the results of the November 6 parliamentary vote and demand a fresh election.
Liberty, New Policy and National Unity united to form Democratic Front, which comprises the political blocs, parties and independent candidates who said their rights had been breached during the election.
The meeting that yielded the decision to establish the new organization was attended by about 200 former candidates for parliament.
Democratic Front will pursue its goals peacefully, said a Libetry leader, and it is open to other political parties sharing its goals.
Thousands of opposition members rallied in the capital of Baku this week to protest the election results and demand the president's resignation. Giving way to mounting international pressure and remembering the outcomes of the popular uprisings in neighboring Georgia, Ukraine and Kyrgyzstan, where corrupt governments were toppled after polls were rigged, the Azerbaijani government opened a criminal investigation against several election officials and revisited the most egregious cases.
