PALANGA Lithuania, October 11 (RIA Novosti) - Lithuanian Foreign Minister Antanas Valionis said Friday the diplomatic spat over the Russian Su-27 Flanker fighter that crashed in the Baltic country in September was over.
The fighter was flying from St. Petersburg to Kaliningrad, a Russian exclave within the European Union, when it crashed on Lithuanian territory after a navigation system failure. The pilot, Major Troyanov, managed to eject safely, and no one was injured in the incident. In November, Russia compensated Lithuania for damages caused by the crash.
"The conflict is closed. I would be happy to invite Major Troyanov to travel [to Lithuania], but not by air - by train for example," Valionis said.
