Attackers planned to hold Nalchik for 2 months - Interior Ministry

NALCHIK, November 14 (RIA Novosti) - The militants who carried out an attack on the North Caucasus city of Nalchik in October had planned to hold the city for two months, the local Interior Ministry's organized crime section said Monday.

According to department deputy head Albert Sizhazhev, one of the captured militants had disclosed this information, as well as the group's plans to obtain arms and distribute them to their accomplices waiting in designated places, he said.

The militants also admitted they had intended to attack Nalchik's airport.

On October 13, at least 150 militants attacked administrative buildings in the city. According to the Prosecutor General's Office, 35 law-enforcement officers and 12 civilians were killed. The Russian Interior Ministry said that during the two days of fighting that ensued, 91 militants were killed and 36 captured.
