MOSCOW, November 14 (RIA Novosti) - Russia and Uzbekistan will work together closely to counter drug trafficking and terrorism stemming from Afghanistan, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Monday.

Putin met with Uzbek President Islam Karimov in Moscow to discuss ways of cooperating to help Afghanistan become peaceful and independent.

"We think there is a need to do everything possible to neutralize the narcotic and terrorist threat coming from Afghanistan, and we will of course continue to provide our neighbors with help in developing their economic and social infrastructure," Putin said.
