HANOI, November 15 (RIA Novosti) - A ban on breeding domestic fowl has been introduced in many large Vietnamese cities and a large-scale operation is underway in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City culling all birds, including decorative birds and fighting roosters.
The measures were introduced by Hanoi's plan to counter the bird flu spread and an outbreak among people.
Recurring outbreaks of the bird flu were registered in 13 out of 64 country's provinces, where 140,000 birds have died or were culled within a month.
The first human death due to bird flu in three months was registered in November. The deadly H5N1 strain has claimed the lives of 42 people in Vietnam since December 16, 2003.
