The Northern Dimension ministerial conference in Brussels has adopted a document outlining new mechanisms of cooperation within these policies.
Lavrov said the Northern Dimension was first regarded as a mechanism to resolve problems of
northern Europe on the basis of EU principles, while other countries were offered membership in the program.
"The Russian side was not satisfied with this approach and we were negotiating new partnership principles," Lavrov said. "These principles were approved and imply equal cooperation involving Russia, the EU, Norway and Iceland."
According to Lavrov, conference participants proposed cooperating with other regional organizations, including the Arctic Council, the Council of Baltic Sea States, along with others, and pointed to Russia's key role in Northern Dimension projects.
"Our contribution was highly appraised," Lavrov said.
