TBILISI, November 23 (RIA Novosti) - The Georgian president named Romania, Estonia and Ukraine as the three countries that Georgia would cooperate with in the development of democracy.
Mikhail Saakashvili spoke Wednesday in the Georgian capital at the forum New Wave of European Liberation: democracy and transformation. The presidents of Romania, Estonia and Ukraine were also in attendance.
"Real countries are formed only under the conditions of democracy and freedom. This has been the experience for Georgia over the last two years," the president said.
"We will gather on December 1 in Kiev for a conference dedicated to the development of democracy. After Kiev, we will go to Bucharest because we consider Romania an example of democratic processes in our region," he said.
He also added that the Georgian people would never forget that Romania was the first country to recognize Georgian independence in the fall of 1991.
Speaking about Estonia, the Georgian president said, "This country was a Soviet state 13 years ago, and now it is not only a successful model of political and economic development in the post-Soviet area but also has a stable political system, and it competes with leading world countries."
"It is a big honor for me that the Estonian president is staying in Georgia," Saakashvili said.
The Georgian president also said that the revolution in Ukraine had been one of the most important events in his life.
"I love the Ukrainian people and owe them a lot. I believe the Ukrainians are true friends of the Georgian people," he said.
Saakashvili thanked Ukraine and Romania for their efforts to settle Georgian conflicts. "We have a definite plan on the settlement of the South Ossetian [a self-proclaimed republic in Georgia] conflict, and I am sure we will implement it," he said.
