NOVO-OGARYOVO, November 25 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday that he hoped the State Duma, the lower chamber of parliament, would make a balanced decision after a debate on a bill on the activity of non-government organizations in the country.
Putin told Duma Speaker Boris Gryzlov that he found it unacceptable that some organizations financed from overseas were involved in political activities in Russia, but added he hoped the decision would be consistent.
"We will certainly take into consideration the proposals being debated in the media and in the Public Chamber and consider possible amendments in the second reading," Gryzlov said, promising that the law would be as balanced as possible.
