VLADIVOSTOK, November 26 (RIA Novosti, Anatoly Ilyukhov) - The environmental situation on the Amur River remains stable, the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry Far East center said Saturday.

At the moment, the toxic spill, approx. 100 km long, is moving at a speed of about 2 km/h, passing the Chinese city of Harbin, some 700 km from the estuary of the Songhua River, a ministry spokesman said.

According to Chinese experts, toxic chemicals that spilled into the river near Harbin in northeast China after the November 13 accident at a nearby petrochemical plant should not reach the Amur River before December 8, whereas Russian experts said that could happen by December 6.

The Russian Federal Border Service has restricted access to the Amur River on a stretch from the village of Novoye to Khabarovsk.
