KIEV, November 26 (RIA Novosti) - Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has urged foreign states and the UN to recognize the Great Famine (Holodomor) of 1932-33 as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people.
"I call on foreign states and the UN to recognize the Holodomor of 1932-33 as genocide against the Ukrainian people head of its upcoming 75th anniversary," he said addressing a public rally in central Kiev Saturday.
Yushchenko offered gratitude to countries that had already done that for their support. "Their courageous stand has helped break the conspiracy of silence," he said.
According to Yushchenko, a total of about 10 million people died during the artificially induced Great Famine in Ukraine.
