GROZNY, November 28 (RIA Novosti) - The President of the North Caucasus republic of Chechnya Alu Alkhanov said Monday that he is planning to meet with the leaders of the former criminal regime of rebel chief Aslan Maskhadov in Brussels in the near future.
"I intend to go to Brussels to meet with the leaders of the Maskhadov regime," Alkhanov told a news conference in Grozny.
Alkhanov said the policy of reconciliation would continue for those who sought peace and fostered a positive future.
He said the republic granted amnesty to and found jobs for militant groups who sought to reform themselves.
"Those who returned to a peaceful life managed to find their places and now they work in different structures," the president said.
About 7,000 former guerillas have been pardoned in Chechnya, Alkhanov said.
