LONDON, November 28 (RIA Novosti, Alexander Smotrov) - Leonid Roshal, the famous Russian pediatric surgeon, said Monday that BusinessWeek's decision to include him in its "25 Stars of Europe" list was an honor for Russia.

"If BusinessWeek considered that besides businessmen, politicians, and culture figures, a doctor can also be a star, why not. The main thing is that it is very good for Russia," Roshal, who has been involved in dozens of rescue operations around world, said.

Roshal has been invited to London to attend the European Leadership Forum along with other prominent people in the Stars of Europe list, and in the list of "50 Leaders of European Business."

"If I am given the floor today, I intend to thank the organizers in my small speech, and say it is an honorary award not only for me but for Russia, and to speak a bit about the importance of pediatrics and childcare," the doctor said.

The 72-year-old pediatrician was nominated for the courage and selflessness he displayed during the Beslan school siege in fall 2004.

The Stars of Europe list also includes Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko, British Telecom CEO Ben Verwaayen, and other figures.
