KIEV, November 29 (RIA Novosti) - Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko said Tuesday that 2006 would be a year of global socio-economic reforms in Ukraine.
"We should streamline the system of social payments, boost the fight against corruption, bring the economy out of the shade and improve the living standards of ordinary Ukrainians," Yushchenko said at a meeting with representatives of international corporations working in Ukraine.
"Our task is to bring new honest people to power and change the general negative trend in society," he said. "We should also restrict the influence of bureaucrats."
Yushchenko also urged foreign businessmen to invest in Ukraine.
"I am convinced that Ukraine has radiant prospects and our purpose is to make you permanent partners of this country," the president said.
