MOSCOW, December 2 (RIA Novosti) - Four-day reserves of potable water have been created in Khabarovsk in Russia's Far East due to the possible contamination of the Amur River after an accident at a petrochemicals plant in northeastern China on November 13, the Emergency Situations Ministry said Friday.

"Daily demand for potable water in the city is estimated at 24,000 cu m," a ministry official said. "The city currently has 92,000 cu m."

He said sanitary authorities reactivated 93 artesian wells in Khabarovsk and its outskirts. Of those, 82 have already passed the necessary tests.

The official said the polluted waters from China could be about 125 miles long when it reaches Khabarovsk and could take 4-5 days to pass through the city.
