MOSCOW, December 5 (RIA Novosti) - Vladimir Platonov said Monday that he could be reelected as Moscow Duma speaker but that United Russia, which won the majority in Sunday's elections, would make the final decision.
Platonov, who served as speaker of the second and third Moscow legislatures, said he "had no reasons to resign."
He said the speaker of the fourth Moscow Duma could be appointed before the first session scheduled for December 21.
Commenting on the election results, he said that "it was the choice of Muscovites" and expressed hope for "constructive cooperation" with new Duma members, but added that a great deal would depend on the opposition.
The Moscow Election Commission said earlier that pro-Kremlin United Russia had taken 47.3% of the vote, the Communist Party - 16.8% and Yabloko - 11.1% with 100% of the votes counted.
