MOSCOW, December 8 (RIA Novosti) - Russia and Ukraine have failed to reach any agreement on the demarcation of the Kerch Strait, which divides Ukraine's autonomous area of the Crimea and the Russian Taman peninsula, a top Ukrainian Foreign Minister official said Thursday.
"We considered the issue of the Kerch Strait demarcation," Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Anton Buteiko said. "The sides maintained their positions on this issue. I cannot speak of progress."
He said the sides exchanged opinions on the preparation of bilateral documents concerning the navigation, fishing and protection of ecological security in the Azov Sea, the Black Sea and the Kerch Strait.
"Unfortunately, we had to ascertain that both sides need to improve work on this issue," Buteiko said.
He said Russia and Ukraine would introduce proposals soon on border crossing for people living in border towns.
