BRUSSELS, December 8 (RIA Novosti) - Cooperation between NATO and the Collective Security Treaty Organization could significantly increase positive results, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Thursday.
"By pooling their potentials, NATO and CSTO could significantly increase the positive results [of their activities]," Lavrov said at a Russia-NATO Council's meeting in the capital of Belgium.
The minister cited the example of the fight against drug trafficking in Afghanistan and said, "it is necessary to find a mutual understanding between NATO, which operates within Afghanistan, and organizations that operate outside of its borders."
NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer said the Alliance was ready to consider the possibility of cooperation between the two organizations.
