"A Russian patrol vessel detained the trawler Lona, which it had been pursuing since Friday morning," the source said.
After Russia sought aid from the Japanese maritime security department in pursuing and detaining the vessel, Japanese coast guards sent two patrol ships and an aircraft to the site and drive the Lona out of its territory.
Russian border guards began their pursuit Friday morning when the vessel, registered in the port of Khasan of Russia's Maritime Territory, ignored a demand to stop for inspection and moved towards Japanese waters.
In the region of the South Kuril Islands, a Russian border guard aircraft fired a warning shot and then opened fire on the boat's bow, but was unable to prevent the trawler from entering Japanese territory.
