NOVOSIBIRSK, December 16 (RIA Novosti, Maxim Koshmarchuk) - A court in Novosibirsk, a regional center in Siberia, is reviewing a criminal case against two political activists who planned to carry out terrorist acts in the city, the prosecutor's office said Friday.

According to the regional prosecutor's office, the investigation of the case was completed in November 2005. Defendants Nikolai Baluyev and Vyacheslav Rusakov, activists of an unofficial local branch of the National Bolshevik Party (NBP), were detained in May this year and charged with plotting terrorist acts and the illegal possession of explosives and ammunition.

During a search of the defendants' house and several hideouts around the city, police found four artillery shells, more than two kilograms of TNT, weapons, ammunition and literature on the preparation of terrorist acts and the manufacture of explosive devices.

According to the results of the investigation, the two NBP activists had been collecting explosives for a year and had conducted test explosions, but the prosecution could not establish the locations where the alleged terrorists were planning to set off the devices.

The regional court held preliminary hearings on the case December 9. The defendants demanded that the case be reviewed by a jury. The court decided to satisfy their demand and adjourned the proceedings until January 10, 2006.
