Below is a summary of the main military-related events in Russia, the CIS and neighboring countries on December 16, 2005
* Commander of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces Nikolai Solovtsov said the following:
- the Strategic Missile Forces had accomplished all the goals set for 2005, including the scheduled test launches of ballistic missiles
- a fifth regiment armed with the silo-based Topol-M missile had been put on combat duty in December
- Russia would test launch from five to eight strategic missiles in 2006
- several strategic missile units in the Urals and Siberia would be disbanded
- the first mobile Topol-M missile complex would be put on combat duty in 2006
