BERLIN, December 18 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Nikolai Valuyev (44-0, 31 KO) became the WBA heavyweight Champion of the World following his Saturday victory over John Ruiz (41-6, 28 KO) in Berlin, Germany.
Nikolai "Beast from The East" Valuev, 32, took the title in a 12-round bout with one referee giving 114-114 points, while the other two referees giving 116-113 and 116-114 points in favor of the Russian.
Valuyev became not only the first Russian boxer to win the WBA title but the tallest and heaviest world boxing champion in history of the sport. He weighed 324 pounds for the fight and is seven feet tall.
