BAKU, December 24 (RIA Novosti) - An AN-140 jetliner crashed 40 kilometers away from Azerbaijan's capital, Baku, killing all 23 people on board, a source in the Azerbaijani transport police said Saturday.
The plane, operated by Azerbaijani Airlines (AZAL), took off from Baku's international airport Friday night for a flight to Aktau, in Kazakhstan, only to disappear from radar screens twenty minutes after takeoff.
AZAL said the passenger list included ten Azerbaijani nationals, four Kazakhs, an
Australian, a Briton, a Turk and a Georgian.
A special commission is investigating the causes of the crash. The search for the flight recorder is on.
