KIEV, December 26 (RIA Novosti) - The Ukrainian government is planning to increase consumer gas prices in the near future, Prime Minister Yuriy Yekhanurov said Monday.
"I will report to the president tomorrow, and I think we will decide on this complicated issue," Yekhanurov's press service quoted him as saying.
According to Yekhanurov, the national committee on energy industry regulation will report on the government's inquiry Wednesday about the possibility of raising the tariffs.
The Ukrainian premier said the conflict around supplies of Russian gas to Ukraine had been exaggerated. He expressed certainty that the parties would reach an agreement.
On December 23, Gas Ukrainy, a subsidiary of the national joint stock company Naftogas of Ukraine, announced that the company planned to supply natural gas to the population and public sector at the former prices of about $35-$38 per thousand cu m for the population and about $46 for public sector entities.
