* CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha said the Collective Security Treaty Organization did not see any reasons to establish additional military bases in the Central Asian region

* The extra second being added to 2005 to make up for the slowing down of the Earth's rotation will not affect the operation of the Russian Strategic Missile Force, its press office said

* Moldavian Defense Minister Valeriu Plesca said Moldova would allocate about $10 million in 2006 for defense purposes

* Russian President Vladimir Putin criticized unfair competition on global arms markets and said the government should make constant adjustments to state policy in the sphere of military-technical cooperation with foreign countries

* Russian President Vladimir Putin said he is for joint Russian-foreign defense enterprises that would reduce the costs of developing and manufacturing new military products and step up international cooperation
