KIEV, January 4 (RIA Novosti) - Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko positively assessed the compromise reached between Russia and Ukraine on natural gas and its transit price, the president's press service said Wednesday.

"The Ukrainian economy is absolutely ready for new market conditions," he said.

"Ukraine is a reliable and stable partner of the European Union and Russian Federation," Yushchenko said.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuriy Yekhanurov said he was satisfied with agreements between Russian energy giant Gazprom and Ukrainian national natural gas company Naftogaz, which envisioned deliveries of Russian gas at the price of $230 per 1,000 cu m.

"The two nations won the gas war," Yekhanurov told journalists. "It was a serious lesson for us," he said.

Yekhanurov said Ukraine would reduce gas consumption from 76.5 billion cu m to 47 billion cu m annually in the next few years.
