NOVOSIBIRSK, January 8 (RIA Novosti, Olga Aldonina) - The sixth international festival of snow sculptures opens Sunday in the Siberian city of Novosibirsk.
Local authorities said 17 teams of sculptors from Russia, Moldova, Belarus, Finland, Romania, Germany, and Bulgaria had applied for participation. Italy and France formed a joint team.
Unlike in the previous years, when sculptors could choose their own theme ranging from atoms to surrealistic women, this time the topic has been clearly identified - New Year and Christmas, the organizers said.
"The sculptors will get down to work Sunday, January 8," they said. "The jury will select and award the winners Thursday, January 12."
