* The Russian government abolished duties on liquefied natural gas exports, the government's press service said
* Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Russia was concerned about Iran's announcement that it was resuming research into nuclear power after a moratorium of two years
* The Russian Finance Ministry said crude oil export duties were likely to fall by around 10% to $160.8 per metric ton from February 1
* Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuriy Yekhanurov canceled a government resolution on raising household natural gas prices by 25% on January 1, 2006
* The Russian Energy and Industry Ministry said:
- Russia had produced 470.196 million metric tons of oil (9.44mln bbl/d) in 2005, representing an annual growth rate of 1.7%, compared with growth of 8.7% in 2004
- Russia had increased oil production by 2.8% in December 2005 year-on-year to 40.816 million metric tons
- Russia had increased natural gas production by 13.7% in December 2005 year-on-year to 59.107 billion cubic meters
- Russia's electricity output in December was up 26.7% year-on-year, to reach 96.2 billion kWh
* The European Union urged Russia and Moldova to resume negotiations on supplies of Russian natural gas to the former Soviet republic
