ASTANA, January 11 (RIA Novosti) - Nursultan Nazarbayev was inaugurated as the president of the Central Asian republic of Kazakhstan Wednesday, following his re-election for a third term at the end of last year.
Nazarbayev took the oath of office in the presence of about 800 foreign guests from 70 countries.
"I take a solemn oath to serve the people of Kazakhstan, strictly abide by the Constitution and the laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and uphold the rights and freedom of citizens," Nazarbayev said.
Nazarbayev, 65, who reelection for another seven years in the oil-rich state with 91% of the vote, said in his inauguration speech, made first in Kazakh and then in Russian: "I understand the support for me support in the election as support of a policy of stability, interethnic accord and dynamic economic development."
