Minister Ivan Plachkov said an expert group would be formed in Kiev during Kiriyenko's visit "to tackle joint projects, which Russia and Ukraine are interested in."
According to Plachkov, Russian and Ukrainian Presidents Vladimir Putin and Viktor Yushchenko discussed joint projects in the nuclear sphere in Astana January 11, including a long-term contract on the production of turbines for Russian nuclear power plants.
He said Ukrainian companies had developed automatic control systems technologies for nuclear plants.
"We are planning to set up [state-owned enterprise] Atomenergoprom this year to tackle the nuclear industry," the minister said, adding that the new company would look to increase uranium production volumes and start nuclear fuel production.
Kiriyenko said in Astana Thursday that Russia was interested in becoming a partner in the Ukrainian turbine plant. "We are ready to agree to any option advantageous to us and our partners," he said.
Russia intends to rebuild the nuclear power industry network that existed during the Soviet period, and is initiating talks with Ukraine and Kazakhstan on the subject, he added.
"All nuclear power facilities on the territory of Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan are part of the single complex of the former Soviet Ministry of Medium Machine Building, which we need to restore," Kiriyenko said.
