MOSCOW, January 13 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian government has approved plans by the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) to carry out a nationwide census in October 2010, the government's press service said Friday.
Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov signed the relevant order January 11, stipulating that a small-scale trial would be conducted before the nationwide census to check methodologies, software and coordination issues. The test census is to be conducted in October 2008.
The first nationwide census in post-Soviet Russia was carried out in 2002.
