Mosenergo spokesman Vasily Zakharov told radio station Ekho Moskvy that the company was capable of increasing its output capacity by about 60MW. Peak demand on the city's system is currently around 16,000MW.
"Mosenergo is ready to produce in strict accordance with its system operator requirements," the spokesman said. "Extra measures have been taken to provide consumers with electricity and heat."
All Mosenergo facilities have substantial stocks of fuel, Zakharov said.
Power demand in Moscow hit a new record high Thursday morning, outstripping the previous record set Wednesday, by 200MW. Thursday evening's demand peak was expected to set another new high, with the city's unusually cold weather showing no sign of abating.
Electricity supplies to some of Moscow's industrial and commercial consumers have been cut back this week, as utilities seek to balance supply and demand.
