About 150 people wearing red jackets and carrying red banners with the hammer and sickle and portraits of socialist ideologist Karl Marx and Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara, gathered in front of the Council of Europe headquarters in a "warning signal" against a report on the crimes of totalitarian and communist regimes to be delivered here Wednesday.
Gennady Zyuganov, the leader of the Russian Communist Party, said the action had been initiated by the Communist Party of Greece, which had asked the local authorities for permission to hold the meeting.
"It is a multinational meeting, which has gathered Greeks, Russians, French, Spaniards, Portuguese, Italians, Czechs and many others," he said.
In parallel, on the other side of the street, another protest is being held against torture in China. About 15 people wearing yellow scarves are doing Faln Gong health exercises to Chinese folklore music.
