MAKHACHKALA, January 24 (RIA Novosti) - A jury of the Supreme Court of Daghestan acquitted Tuesday a suspect charged with masterminding a bloody terrorist attack in the republic in September 1999, but found him guilty on other charges, a spokesman for the court said
Magomed Salikhov had been accused of organizing the bombing of a residential building in Buinaksk that left 64 people dead and about 100 injured, but the jury cleared him of these charges.
However, Salikhov was found guilty of participating in an illegal armed unit, illegally crossing the border, and using fake documents.
Presiding Judge Kurban Pashayev said sentencing would take place later this week or early next week.
Salikhov had been put on the federal and international wanted lists and was arrested on November 12, 2004 in Azerbaijan with fake documents.
