MOSCOW, January 25 (RIA Novosti) - Russia will block imports of U.S.-made cars that do not meet its road standards, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.
The ministry's official spokesman, Mikhail Kamynin, said the measure had been necessitated by recent amendments to the Russian Traffic Rules, and had nothing to do with trade protectionism.
According to Kamynin, the idea behind the amendments was to bring the national Traffic Rules into line with the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic, and international agreements on technical requirements for motor vehicles currently in force in Europe.
