TOKYO, January 26 (RIA Novosti, Andrei Fesyun) - Russian state-owned diamond giant Alrosa auctioned off 30% of its exhibited diamonds in Tokyo, Japan Thursday, the company's deputy director said.
Oleg Larin said about one-third of the 63 diamonds, weighing from 0.3 to 22 carats, were sold, garnering Alrosa about $580,000.
"This is a very good result since we usually sell no more than 20% of diamonds on auction," Larin said.
This was Alrosa's second auction in Japan and was attended by 23 major Japanese and foreign companies.
