TBLISI, February 1 (RIA Novosti, Marina Kvaratskhelia) - Georgia is to begin taking bids on February 2 for six hydro-electric power stations and several distribution companies that it is privatizing, the country's Economics Ministry said Wednesday.
A ministry source said the government expected to receive at least $110 million for the six power stations.
The package of assets up for sale consists of the Gumat, Lajanur, Dzevrul, Shaor, Ats, and Rion hydropower plants, as well as the United Energy Distribution Company and other power distribution companies in the regions of Kakhetia (eastern Georgia) and Ajaria (an autonomy in the country's southwest).
The privatization is being carried out with the support of the U.S. Agency for International Development.
Bids will be accepted until August 31, 2006. The ministry said the privatization conditions did not rule out the sale of all the assets as a single lot.
