TBILISI, February 21 (RIA Novosti) - The Georgian prime minister's visit to Russia that was initially scheduled for February 26 has been postponed, not cancelled, the Russian ambassador to Georgia said Tuesday at a news conference in the country's capital, Tbilisi.
After a closed-door meeting with PM Zurab Nogaideli, Vladimir Chkhikvishvili told reporters that with tensions between Russia and Georgia running high, officials in Moscow had decided to put off the premier's visit, but did not specify until when.
Earlier, Georgian Parliamentary Vice Speaker Mikhail Machavariani expressed regret over the postponement of the Feburary 26 visit, saying it would have provided a good opportunity to discuss "almost all [current] issues, including a plan to settle the conflict in [Georgia's breakaway republic] of South Ossetia."
According to Machavariani, a Georgian parliamentary delegation's visit set for the same date will go ahead as planned.
