MOSCOW, February 23 (RIA Novosti, Yekaterina Andrianova) - Russia may play an important role in reforming the UN human rights activity, the chief UN rights official said Thursday.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour, who is on an official visit to Russia, said Russia could contribute to changing the culture of the commission she heads.

The UN Commission on Human Rights, established in 1946, is the UN's chief body in relation to human rights. The UN member countries have recently been discussing the reformation of the commission, which is often accused of politicizing and double standards.

Arbour said a representation of her office in Moscow would start operating within a month. She said this would send a clear signal for a human rights dialogue with international agencies on the part of Russia.
